We waited a long time before writing this piece.
Because saying “we are superior to competitors” sounds either arrogant or hollow. We like neither.
But we realized something: refusing to speak about competitors means leaving the most legitimate question of a discerning consumer unanswered. That, too, is not honest.
We choose a third path: talking through criteria. No product names, only categories — what actually happens in the market, what is real and what is appearance.
What We See in the Market
Anyone in Turkey searching for functional mushroom powder encounters the following landscape:
'Full spectrum biomass': This phrase usually means mycelium grown on a grain substrate and ground together with the substrate. Beta-Glucan content may fall between 1–5%. The label does not disclose this.
'Standardized extract': The extract may be genuine — but which solvent? Which temperature? Which compound has been standardized? None of this is stated.
'From wild forest mushrooms': Wild-harvested or cultivated? Where from? The word 'forest' is deployed to inspire confidence, but traceability is absent.
No COA: The vast majority of small producers do not commission independent analysis. Some products that claim “analyzed” carry a certificate dated over two years old.
We share these observations not to belittle anyone. This is simply the reality of the sector. A regulatory gap exists; consumers have not yet learned what to ask; producer standards remain unsettled.
We were born into this environment. Our difference is that, seeing the rotten ground beneath us from the start, we chose to build on solid foundations.
MYCOVITA’s Five Unbreakable Rules
1. 100% Fruit Body: No product of ours contains substrate-bound mycelium. This rule has not changed since day one, and it will not change. The fruit-body path is long, yields are low, and costs are high. We choose it with full awareness.
2. Every Batch Analyzed: After harvest, every single batch goes to an independent laboratory. Beta-Glucan, moisture, heavy metals, microbiological screening. All recorded by batch number. The COA is shared upon request.
3. Certified Mycelium: For all species, we use genetic lines sourced from certified production facilities in the Netherlands. Genetic stability, contamination protocols, and consistency of the bioactive profile are guaranteed.
4. Low-Heat Drying: 42–45°C for 22–42 hours. This temperature window preserves enzyme structure and heat-sensitive compounds. Compared to industrial high-heat drying, it is both slower and more expensive — but the difference is visible in the analysis.
5. Local & Traceable: From spawn to powder at our facility in Ordu, Turkey. Every link in the supply chain is documented.
What We Cannot Yet Do
We will be honest: there are things we still cannot accomplish.
Our packaging process is not yet fully automated — it remains largely manual, limiting our scale. In certain periods, we fall behind in meeting demand.
Our prices sit above the market’s lower segment — because our costs are higher. There is no other way to be a premium product.
Our international certification process is underway — but not yet complete.
We state these things because trust is built not only by showing the good sides, but also by honestly sharing the shortcomings.
Five Questions, One Decision
Before purchasing any functional mushroom powder — ours included — ask these five questions:
Fruit body or mycelium?
Has the Beta-Glucan percentage been analyzed, and is the number available?
Is the mycelium source disclosed?
Is the drying method and temperature specified?
If I request a COA, will they provide it?
A product that gives documented, concrete answers to all five of these questions — regardless of the brand — is a quality product.
