Frequently Asked Questions
🇹🇷 Bu sayfayı Türkçe oku Our inbox is as active as our laboratory. Dozens of questions arrive every day — from brewing temperature to substrate selection, from combinations to side effects. We have gathered the 50 most frequently asked questions under five headings.
PRODUCTION AND QUALITY
Are your products just ordinary ground mushroom powder? No. The mushroom cell wall is composed of chitin — the human stomach cannot digest chitin. If you swallow merely ground powder, the bioactive compounds pass through without being absorbed. The Apothecary Series undergoes hot water extraction — the chitin wall has been broken down, and the bioactive compounds are liberated.
Do you use mycelium or the fruiting body? 100% fruiting body. Mycelium, including substrate material, does not enter the product. Triterpenes and complex beta-glucans concentrate in the fruiting body — grain-based mycelium products consist largely of oats or rice.
Where is production carried out? Ordu, Türkiye. In our own facility. We do not use imported bulk powder. Every stage, from spore to powder, is under our control.
What is a COA and why does it matter? Certificate of Analysis — an independent laboratory document issued for every batch. Beta-glucan content, heavy metal testing, microbiological cleanliness. MYCOVITA issues a COA for each batch.
Do you perform heavy metal and microbiological testing? Yes. Mushrooms are bioaccumulators — they absorb everything present in their growing environment. Lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and pathogenic bacteria are tested in every batch.
What do you use as a substrate? It varies by species — oak sawdust, beech wood, organic bran, rice-based formulations. We never use industrial waste or low-grade agricultural residue that carries heavy metal risk.
Why controlled cultivation instead of wild harvesting? Wild-foraged mushrooms are exposed to environmental pollution and heavy metals. Controlled cultivation guarantees purity and a standardized bioactive profile in every batch.
Do your products contain fillers? No. No maltodextrin, no starch, no anti-caking agents. The ingredient list reads: 100% mushroom.
What is the difference between the Gastronomy and Apothecary lines? Gastronomy (King Oyster, Shiitake Donko, Maitake) — whole dried mushrooms for the kitchen. Apothecary (Lion's Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, Turkey Tail, Sparassis) — teapot-cut powder, optimized for hot water extraction.
Are the products vegan and gluten-free? Yes. All products are 100% plant/mushroom based. The production line contains no gluten-bearing ingredients.
USAGE AND DOSAGE
What is the ideal daily dose? Starting dose: 1 g/day. Depending on bodily adaptation and personal goals, it may be increased to 2 g. The effect is cumulative — consistency matters more than dosage.
Why powder instead of capsules? Powder form offers dosage flexibility. Absorption begins faster with hot water. Encapsulation requires additional materials and processing — it carries filler risk.
Can it be added to cold water or a smoothie? It can, but efficacy decreases. For full dissolution of beta-glucans, first steep the powder in half a cup of hot water (75–90°C), then add it to your cold beverage.
What temperature should the water be for steeping? This varies by species. Lion's Mane: 70–75°C. Reishi, Turkey Tail: 85–90°C. 100°C boiling water destroys certain delicate enzymes — let the water rest for 1–2 minutes after boiling.
How long should steeping take? Lion's Mane, Cordyceps: 5–7 minutes. Reishi: 8–15 minutes. Turkey Tail: 10–12 minutes — sufficient time is essential for PSK extraction.
On an empty stomach or with food? Absorption is faster on an empty stomach. If your stomach is sensitive, take it after a light snack.
Is it harmful to mix with coffee or tea? No, quite the opposite. Lion's Mane's nutty profile pairs well with coffee. Cordyceps is excellent with espresso. Reishi works beautifully with tea and coconut milk.
Does it taste bad? Each species has a characteristic flavor. Lion's Mane is mildly sweet, neutral. Cordyceps carries an earthy note. Reishi is distinctly bitter — this is a quality indicator. Honey and creamy beverages balance the bitterness.
Can it be added to food? Apothecary powders can be added to hot soup, oatmeal, or sauce bases — they are heat-stable. For Turkey Tail, it must remain in boiling liquid for at least 10–12 minutes.
Should I take breaks? The adaptogenic profile does not create tolerance. Taking a one-week break after 8–12 weeks of regular use is a common practice — but it is not mandatory.
COMBINATION AND EFFECTS
Can I use multiple species at the same time? Yes. Mushrooms target different receptors and do not compete with one another. Keep the total daily dose within the 3–4 g range.
When combining, should I increase the total dose? No. Example: 1 g Lion's Mane + 1 g Cordyceps + 1 g Reishi = 3 g total. Taking 2 g of each species separately is not necessary.
When will I feel the effects? Cordyceps: 1–3 days. Reishi sleep effect: 2–4 weeks. Lion's Mane and Turkey Tail: 6–8 weeks of consistent use. This is a cumulative effect — expecting an acute response is not realistic.
What is recommended for mornings? Lion's Mane + Cordyceps. Mental clarity + cellular energy.
What is recommended for evenings and before sleep? Reishi Black Horn. The triterpene profile calms the nervous system and supports deep sleep.
What should I use before training? Cordyceps — 45–60 minutes beforehand. Cordycepin supports mitochondrial energy production.
What should an immune support protocol look like? During seasonal transitions: Turkey Tail as a daily base + Sparassis as a booster. Consistent use throughout winter.
Which is best for focus and mental intensity? Lion's Mane. Alongside the Hericenone compounds that support NGF synthesis — cumulative, allow at least 8 weeks.
I want to quit coffee — what should I do for energy? Cut your coffee dose in half and add Cordyceps into it. Over time the coffee decreases — Cordyceps supports the energy profile.
If I do not feel an effect, should I increase the dose? First, commit to at least 4 weeks of consistent use. Drink plenty of water. Then reassess. Prioritize consistency over rapid dose escalation.
SPECIES BIOCHEMISTRY
Why is Reishi so bitter? Has it spoiled? Quite the opposite. The bitterness comes from ganoderic acid — the very center of Reishi's bioactive identity. A sweet Reishi means a weak Reishi.
Does Cordyceps cause palpitations like caffeine? No. Caffeine manipulates the nervous system. Cordyceps works at the mitochondrial level — no palpitations, no crash.
Lion's Mane made me feel sleepy — is that normal? Rare but possible. The nervous system may be shifting into repair mode. In that case, move it from your morning routine to your evening routine.
I felt tingling on my skin after taking Lion's Mane — is it an allergy? Most likely not. It is debated whether NGF stimulation may create temporary sensitivity in cutaneous nerve endings. If it becomes uncomfortable, halve the dose.
What is the difference between Turkey Tail and Sparassis? Sparassis: 40–45% pure beta-glucan, acute and potent. Turkey Tail: PSK/PSP protein-bound complexes, a long-term modulator. Different mechanisms, complementary use.
Why does PSK require a longer steep time? PSK is a large molecule — it takes time to exit the chitin wall and transition into the water. If it stays under 10–12 minutes, a significant portion remains undissolved.
What is the difference between Cordyceps sinensis and militaris? Sinensis is a wild insect parasite, nearly impossible to cultivate, priced at tens of thousands of dollars per kilogram — inexpensive sinensis products on the market are typically liquid-tank mycelium. Militaris can be grown in controlled environments, and its cordycepin concentration is generally higher.
How does Shiitake Donko differ from standard Shiitake? Donko is the highest grade, harvested before the cap opens. GMP and Lentinan peak at this stage. Do not discard the soaking water — GMP transfers into it.
How does King Oyster achieve a scallop-like texture? Thorough drying + a high-heat dry pan + 3–4 minutes without touching. The Maillard reaction begins, and the fiber structure transforms into a texture reminiscent of scallops.
What is ergothioneine? A rare amino acid produced only by mushrooms and certain soil bacteria. It is the sole molecule for which the body has developed a specific transporter protein (OCTN1) to carry it into cells. King Oyster and Cordyceps are among the richest sources.
HEALTH, SAFETY, AND STORAGE
I take regular medication — could there be an issue? Those using blood thinners (concerning Reishi, Cordyceps) and those on immunosuppressive medication (concerning Turkey Tail, Maitake) should consult their physician.
Can they be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding? The Gastronomy Series may be consumed well-cooked — with a doctor's approval. The Apothecary Series is a concentrated extract — since transfer across the placental barrier and into breast milk is not fully understood, a cautious approach is recommended.
I have an autoimmune condition — can I use them? Functional mushrooms are immune modulators. In cases such as MS, Lupus, or Rheumatoid Arthritis, consult a rheumatology/immunology specialist.
I have a mushroom allergy — can I use them? If you have a known mushroom allergy or a history of anaphylaxis, avoid functional mushroom extracts.
Should I discontinue use before surgery? Yes. To prevent bleeding risk and anesthetic interactions, stop at least 2 weeks before planned surgery.
Can children use them? For children in developmental stages, pediatrician approval is required for concentrated extracts. The Gastronomy Series may be cooked and used in the kitchen.
Should they be stored in the refrigerator? No. Condensation forms upon removal from the refrigerator, causing the powder to clump. A cool, dry, dark cupboard is sufficient.
What should I do if the packaging seal is damaged? Transfer the powder to a glass jar with a gasket seal — away from moisture and light.
How should they be transported during travel? In the original sealed packaging, in your carry-on luggage. Powder is not subject to the liquids rule — it passes through security without issue. A small glass jar is practical for travel.
What is the shelf life? Under correct storage conditions, 24 months from the date of production. Refer to the batch number and expiration date on the packaging.

MYCOVITA's story, technical infrastructure, and transparency principles: Why MYCOVITA?
Mycelium Library | MYCOVITA
Is mushroom powder beneficial for the skin?
Mushrooms are not skincare products. However, ergothioneine — an antioxidant amino acid abundant in mushrooms — is actively accumulated in skin cells. King Oyster and Shiitake Donko are among the richest ergothioneine sources.
Are mushrooms prebiotic?
Beta-glucan and chitin — the cell wall components of mushrooms — cannot be broken down by digestive enzymes. They ferment in the large intestine and produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). This mechanism is being researched for its prebiotic potential.
Is there a specific protocol for women?
During menopause, the Reishi evening protocol (cortisol balance + sleep) and the Cordyceps morning protocol (energy support) are referenced in research. The Apothecary series is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Should mushrooms be added to coffee or tea?
They can be added to either — but temperature differences affect bioactive compounds. Lion's Mane is sensitive above 75°C; allow your coffee to cool before adding. Reishi is ideal at 85–90°C.
Do mushrooms contain vitamin D?
Mushrooms contain ergosterol. When exposed to UV light, it converts to vitamin D2. You can enrich dried Shiitake Donko with vitamin D by placing it in sunlight. MYCOVITA products are cultivated indoors — they should not be used as a vitamin D source.
Are mushrooms used in cancer treatment?
No. No mushroom species constitutes a cancer treatment. However, the PSK component of Turkey Tail has been licensed as an adjuvant (supportive) agent in Japan since 1977. MYCOVITA makes no claims in this regard.
What is the Mycelium Library?
MYCOVITA's mushroom science knowledge platform. It consists of species encyclopedias, molecule cards, usage guides, safety profiles, and recipe collections. Entirely free, source-attributed, and referenced information.
Are mushrooms beneficial for mental health?
Mushrooms are not a treatment for anxiety or depression. However, Lion's Mane NGF support and Reishi's adaptogenic profile are finding increasing attention in neuroplasticity research. Do not discontinue your existing treatment — consult your psychiatrist.
