The powder has arrived. The package is open. What do you do now?

When mushroom powder is brewed incorrectly, flavor suffers and bioactive compounds remain incompletely deployed. Improper brewing yields a scorched, bitter, or flat beverage. The difference is substantial.

Fundamental Principle: Do Not Use Boiling Water

Water at 100°C can degrade the delicate constituents of species such as Reishi and Lion’s Mane. The optimal temperature window lies between 70 and 90°C — varying by species.

Practical method: let boiled water rest for 2–3 minutes. If using a thermometer, the target temperature is easily attained.

Species‑Specific Brewing Guide

Lion’s Mane — MIND

Temperature: 70–75°C | Time: 5–7 minutes | Amount: 1–1.5 g

Among the most delicate species. It requires low temperature. Excessive heat can induce slight bitterness. Pairs exceptionally well with milk or plant‑based milks — hence the popularity of Lion’s Mane latte.

Reishi Antler — BALANCE

Temperature: 85–90°C | Time: 8–10 minutes | Amount: 1–2 g

The robust triterpene content gives this species its characteristic bitter taste. This bitterness is a marker of quality — do not recoil from it. Extended steeping ensures full‑spectrum extraction. The profile can be balanced with honey or cinnamon‑infused drinks.

Cordyceps — VITALITY

Temperature: 80–85°C | Time: 5–7 minutes | Amount: 1–1.5 g

Carries an earthy, slightly grain‑like aroma. Adding it to morning coffee is the most common practice — a favorable combination for synergistic effect with caffeine. Can be stirred directly into black coffee.

Çiçek Mantarı — IMMUNITY

Temperature: 80–85°C | Time: 6–8 minutes | Amount: 1–2 g

Its high beta‑glucan content demands sufficient temperature and time to fully deploy the polysaccharides. A mildly sweet, neutral profile renders it easy to combine with other species.

Turkey Tail — BALANCING

Temperature: 80–85°C | Time: 7–10 minutes | Amount: 1–2 g

Adequate heat and duration are critical for the PSK and PSP fractions. It possesses a woody, neutral taste. Preparing it together with green tea aligns with traditional Asian practice.

Brewing Techniques

Direct Mixing

The simplest method. Heat the water, add the powder, whisk or shake. Use a milk frother to create a foamy beverage. Sediment is normal — the settled portion is valuable as well.

French Press Method

Place the powder in a French press, add hot water, steep for 7–10 minutes, press. Produces a clearer cup with minimal sediment. Ideal for serving guests.

Double Extraction

For true enthusiasts: first a hot‑water infusion (for polysaccharides), followed by the addition of a small amount of alcohol (for triterpenes). This method broadens the bioactive spectrum, especially for Reishi. Commercial extracts are manufactured using this technique.

Combination Suggestions

Morning ritual: Cordyceps + Lion’s Mane — a blend of energy and focus.

Afternoon: Trametes + Sparassis — an immunity combination.

Evening: Reishi alone — calming, soothing.

Always: Experience species individually first, not simultaneously. Acquaint yourself with each profile before blending.

Storage Note

After brewing, the tea can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Avoid microwave reheating — warm gently over low heat.
