— THE CORE QUESTION —

The second sentence after "How should I take it?" almost always follows: "Morning or evening?"

There is no single answer to this question. Each species possesses a distinct bioactive compound profile — and that profile determines optimal timing.

Taking Reishi in the morning and Cordyceps in the evening is, theoretically, the wrong approach. The reverse is correct. Why? Because one species carries an activation profile, and the other, an adaptation profile.

Below is the species-based timing guide.

— MORNING — Activation Profile —

Lion's Mane (COGNITION) → Morning

The hericenone and erinacine compounds support NGF synthesis. The cognitive clarity and focus profile is most meaningful during the active hours of the day.

Usage: 70–75°C, 5–7 minutes, 1 g. With coffee or on its own. Establish it as the first step of your morning routine.

Caffeine compatibility: Excellent. Lion's Mane does not block caffeine's effect, and caffeine does not disrupt Lion's Mane's profile. One delivers mental clarity, the other stimulation — complementary.

Cordyceps (VITALITY) → Morning / Pre-Workout

The combination of cordycepin and adenosine supports ATP synthesis. The energy and physical capacity profile is most meaningful before activity.

Usage: 80–85°C, 5–7 minutes, 1 g. 60–90 minutes before training or before the most demanding period of the day.

Caffeine compatibility: Can be combined. Morning Cordyceps plus an espresso creates a balanced start. Cordyceps' effect begins more gradually; caffeine carries the first hour, after which Cordyceps takes over.

— EVENING — Adaptation Profile —

Reishi (BALANCE) → Evening

Ganoderic acids balance cortisol and support the GABA system. The stress adaptation and sleep quality profile is most meaningful during the closing hours of the day.

Usage: 85–90°C, 10–15 minutes, 1 g. After dinner or 1–2 hours before sleep. With coconut milk or honey water.

Why evening: The cortisol and GABA mechanism supports nighttime biology. Taking it in the morning does not render it ineffective — but aligning timing with the compound profile increases efficiency.

Turkey Tail (IMMUNE MODULATOR) → Evening or Midday

The PSK and PSP constituents provide immune modulation. There is no activating or sedative effect — it can be used at any time of day.

Usage: 85–90°C, 8–12 minutes. Extended steeping increases PSK extraction — do not keep it short.

Recommended: Evening combined with Reishi. 1 g Reishi + 0.5 g Turkey Tail / 250 ml / 88°C / 12 minutes.

— ALL DAY — Flexible Profile —

Sparassis (IMMUNITY) → Midday or Evening

Beta-glucan-focused immune profile — timing is not critical from an immune mechanism standpoint.

Usage: 75–80°C, 5–8 minutes. Small batch — use sparingly.

— FULL-DAY PROTOCOL —

Morning (07:00–09:00): 1 g Lion's Mane + 1 g Cordyceps / 250 ml / 80°C / 7 min Midday (12:00–13:00): 0.5 g Turkey Tail / 200 ml / 88°C / 10 min — optional Evening (20:00–21:00): 1 g Reishi / 250 ml / 88°C / 12 min / with coconut milk

This protocol involves 3.5 g daily across five species. If that feels excessive for a starting point: morning Lion's Mane + evening Reishi. Two species, two times, a clear distinction.

— CAFFEINE AND TIMING —

Important note: When taken in the evening, Cordyceps does not have the same negative impact on sleep as caffeine — cordycepin does not block adenosine receptors. Nevertheless, morning or midday timing remains the more logical choice to align the energy profile with the active hours of the day.
